Nora Quoirin: Does the McCann case provide a case study on what to do when a child disappears, or what not to do?

The McCann Rule-of-Thumb is raise money, exert pressure, and remote control an investigation from abroad by having your superior country’s resources criticize every aspect of the investigation.

Make sure the case stays in the media because that will focus local cops on searching and investigation. [No, it will focus them on reading the tabloids criticizing what they’re doing].

The McCanns Rule-of-Thumb also suggests waiting as long as possible to give statements to the police, and telling the police to follow the leads you give them. In short, control the narrative. Also, make sure siblings don’t talk to the investigators, as this might actually get it on the right track.

The McCann-Rule-of-Thumb requires setting up PR spokesmen, and not dealing with the police but communicating instead to the public, especially through spokesmen, book deals, documentaries etc. All the profits from this naturally go to the search for the missing child, until it turns out it’s mostly used to pay for PR, legal fees and occasionally, an expensive mortgage.

Mudslinging in the Media Part III: Malaysian Police Chief Slams Irish Lawyer Anne Brennan for “Slanderous Accusations”

5NPWwx.md

Isn’t it ironic, those being prosecuted in the Nora Quoirin case are observers who have tweeted something, or said something unsavory on Facebook. It just calls into question the silence of those at the heart of this case.

Confusion Continues in Nora Quoirin Case: Now claimed her body was found 600 meters from Resort

When True Crime Rocket Science started covering this case, one of the aspects that stood out as particularly strange was the lack of clarity about where precisely Nora’s body was actually found. The media seemed to assume it was near the Lata Berembum waterfall. But I suspected this was an error. Just because Nora was found near a waterfall didn’t mean it was found near the only waterfall mentioned on Google Maps.

One hopes the authorities will provide clarity in this area. Once again, providing the GPS co-ordinates is the way to do that. There is also additional information missing, such as precisely when the family checked into the hotel, and when the respective parents arrived in the country, and which airlines they used.

Fullscreen capture 20190820 185828

It also bears mentioning that at this point there is confusion about so many basic aspects:

  1. Did Nora sleep upstairs or downstairs?
  2. Did she sleep in her own room, alone, or with her siblings?
  3. Where exactly was her body found?
  4. What happened to Nora’s clothing? A search should continue for her clothing.
  5. Whose fingerprints were left on the window?
  6. Did Nora leave through the window or through the door?
  7. What are the results of the toxicology?
  8. Have Nora’s family, especially her siblings, been tested for sleeping pills as well?
  9. When will the family provide a proper statement to the authorities explaining their position re: an abduction.
  10. Is this a case of accidental death, negligence or is it a criminal case?

Nora Quoirin Blame Game Heats Up in Media War

It’s simple. If the media is British then the Malaysian cops are to blame for a flawed investigation. If the media is Malaysian, then the cops aren’t to blame. Thus far the Malaysian media have stopped short of making any accusations or inferences against the parents. The battle to control the narrative is gaining momentum, but who actually holds the higher moral ground in this instance?

The fact that someone went to see mediums on Day 9 is damning. It shows someone dropped the ball somewhere, and it reinforces the very real notion that Nora could have been found earlier, perhaps even alive, if the search had been more focused from Day 1.

We know that on August 9th Nora’s folks spent 1-2 hours at a prayer meeting [British press say the police took them to a 2-hour meeting, Malaysian press said they left after 1 hour]. They also spent some time giving a press conference where they provided details on fundraising for the search.

It seems once the autopsy results were made known, the parents checked out of The Dusun Resort and went home. The way the article reads in the Malay Mail, the Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad wasn’t informed of the Quoirn families’ movements or intentions, and instead learned the Quoirin’s had returned home via the media.

CrimeRocket isn’t affiliated with the British, Irish, French or Malaysians. But it appears after all the efforts spent by the Malaysian authorities to respond to the families vocal petitions for help, all they got in return was a kick in the teeth.

#26 July 29th, 2018: “You’re out of it from Playing” #1yearagotodayCW

On Sunday morning, Chris Watts awoke in a yellow tent at the Zapata Falls campsite. Probably the firewood and ice they’d bought at the Oasis gas station the previous day was already burned through, and melted.

Fullscreen capture 20190729 110700

But it was a night well spent, and the start of a beautiful new day in Colorado. That morning, the lovebirds left their perch beneath the trees and above the clouds, and headed to the falls.

By 09:22, relatively late, Watts started taking photos.  If the previous afternoon had been cloudy, and and about sand, dunes, surfing and leaving footprints in the sand, Sunday morning was about a slower, gentler pace, with the sound of gurgling water, and a whooshing waterfall in the background.

Fullscreen capture 20190729 105841Fullscreen capture 20190729 105911Fullscreen capture 20190729 110005

The power and beauty of the natural setting was relaxing and refreshing. That day Watts changed his grey shirt for a shirt with a grey front, and charcoal black shoulders and sleeves. Kessinger changed her bright outfit for a softer grey too.

Fullscreen capture 20190713 234144

At 10:38 Watts transferred a fully nude selfie of Kessinger to his secret calculator app. Was it taken that night?

At 10:55 Watts consulted his phone again and noted with dismay what he expected to find: a bunch of missed calls from his wife. He felt the resistance rising in him as he reported to her that the hike was “finished”, and that they were heading back. He purposefully didn’t call. He didn’t want to talk to her. He didn’t want to go back.

In the image above, taken by Kessinger, notice there’s a slight edge to Watts’ smile. It’s slightly forced.

Fullscreen capture 20190729 110629Fullscreen capture 20190729 110652

Between 12:46 and 14:21 Shan’ann made four more unanswered calls to her husband. Kessinger’s friend Charlotte Nelson also called her, and invited her to a Renaissance Festival. But the “hike” wasn’t quite over.

When returning home from the Great Sand Dunes, NICHOL’s friend CHAROLETTE asked her to go to the Renaissance Festival. NICHOL made an excuse why she could not go as she was with CHRIS and did not want CHAROLETTE to know. NICHOL said she and CHRIS stopped in Colorado Springs at “BJ’s”. They sat to the right of the doors and CHRIS paid for their meals with a gift card. BJ’s Restaurant is located at 5150 North Nevada Ave Colorado Springs, Colorado. – Discovery Documents, page 648

We see that on July 30th it was still important for Watts to keep his expenditures off Shan’ann’s radar. That’s what the gift card and the mypredpaidcenter visits were all about.

It’s a four-hour drive from the Great Sand Dunes back to Frederick, via the BJ’s restaurant in Colorado Springs and through Denver. Watts knew Shan’ann wanted to talk to him and would be pissed when he did, so he elected to postpone the inevitable confrontation.

Fullscreen capture 20190729 114739

Watts finally called Shan’ann and spoke briefly to her at 14:25. He’d been incommunicado in terms of direct two-way communication since Friday afternoon at 16:44 [assuming the Phone Data Review is accurate]. It’s likely this call on Sunday afternoon was made with Kessinger still sitting beside him in the car, possibly driving.

On the other hand, maybe Watts was driving since he didn’t respond to a series of work-related texts throughout the day either. Watts only reported in to them at 18:20.

Fullscreen capture 20190726 102532-001

By 17:30 Shan’ann was starting to losing it. She made more unanswered calls to him, then texted him again at 17:49. Watts used the bit of intel he had to fashion a credible lie. He knew about the Renaissance Festival. He used a plausible event to conceal and divert from his little adventure further south.

Shan’ann finally got hold of her errant husband at 19:24, when they held a fourteen minute conversation. Shan’ann clearly bought his bullshit, but then wanted to have a conversation with her husband. But he didn’t want to. The weekend [as far as he was concerned], still wasn’t over.

Shan’ann wanted to talk about her weekend, and especially her Sunday.

This is what she’d been up to while Watts was sandboarding with his girlfriend.

Fullscreen capture 20190724 131352Fullscreen capture 20190724 131305Fullscreen capture 20190724 131313Fullscreen capture 20190724 131319Fullscreen capture 20190724 131326Fullscreen capture 20190724 131340

Fullscreen capture 20190726 102539

But even though Shan’ann was trying to guilt him into talking to her, her sarcasm didn’t work. He told her he was sorry she had a hard weekend, and he’d make it up to her. Well, he wasn’t sorry, otherwise he would have stuck around to talk to her. And he wasn’t going to make it up to her, he just needed her to get off his back ASAP so he could back to her.

Shan’ann followed this up with a few more barbs until she finally gave up, telling him she was done begging him to talk to her. But Shan’ann’s right. He was out of it – their marriage – from playing. And if Shan’ann was done, it just made his life so much easier.

Watts’ mind, meanwhile, was on how to pay for the events of that evening and July 31st, his very last day with the new love of his life before he was torn back to North Carolina.

#12 July 15th, 2018: Chris Watts on the line with Vivint #1yearagotodayCW

On Sunday, July 15th, Watts spends 23 minutes on the line with Vivint, his home security company. It’s likely this was prompted by Shan’ann finally FLIPPING OUT over the dodgy garage sensor. [Watts’ call to Vivint was prompted by a 5 minute call from Shan’ann about an hour earlier].

Fullscreen capture 20190708 110932-001

For the remainder of the day Watts seemed to be doing chores in the basement, possibly at Shan’ann’s behest. Remember she could not reach him the day before while he was out at the museum and canoodling with Kessinger. Watts took several photos of the inside of the basement and presumably sent them to Shan’ann to prove that he was done his chores.

We can only speculate what happened during Watts’ 23-minute conversation with Vivint. Vivint may have described the ins and outs of the technology, and how to work around issues. This insight may have come in useful a month later. Whatever Watts’ learned, the garage sensor remained busted when the cops arrived in mid-August.

In terms of the taking photos as “evidence” or as an alibi for chores, this seemed to be part of a habit in the Watts household. Just prior to murder of the children a month later, Shan’ann also asked Watts to send her pictures of the children in bed. He couldn’t on that occasion, because they were already dead. He resent pictures of the children from earlier in the day instead.
